The Haereticus Environmental Laboratory (HEL) has created a list of personal care and sunscreen ingredients known to pose a threat to various waterways + wildlife. We developed this SPF to be reef-friendly and consciously formulated without any of the ingredients on the HEL list.
The Skin Sweep Exfoliating Powder Cleanser is formulated with/infused with sea concentrate: rich in Magnesium, Zinc, Calcium, and Potassium to harness the stimulating properties of the sea.
While both provide protection, chemical sunscreens contain ingredients like Oxybenzone and Oxtinoxate which research suggests its affects on reefs. Sunscreens with these ingredients have been banned for sale in Hawaii and Key West.
This product was not designed to be water resistant. We recommend reapplying after going into the water.
Apply evenly + liberally 15 min before sun exposure and as needed. Reapply at least every 2 hours + use a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating!

Our priority at Honest is to make clean, safe, sustainable and effective products that inspire everyone to love living consciously. When formulating our sunscreen, we actively choose to make it without the chemical booster Butyl Octylsalicylate -- an SPF booster that functions similarly to a chemical sunscreen and is often added to mineral-based formulas to achieve the transparency of a chemical sunscreen -- because it has been known to include properties that are toxic to both people and the environment, specifically to aquatic ecosystems. As we do not use chemical boosters in our SPF products, our Daily Defense Mineral Sunscreen Fluid may leave a slight cast at first but the product should blend in seamlessly once rubbed in.
