Making it Work: Honest Celebrates Breastfeeding Month

Here at Honest, we support every option that parents have to nourish their children. With August being Breastfeeding Month, we continue to celebrate the diversity of feeding experiences. This month, we’re excited to share the worldwide celebration of World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) with over 176 countries!  WBW started 23 years ago to celebrate the Innocenti Declaration, but it’s come a long way since then. Initiatives include an annual focus to address what matters most to parents and that’s what we’re here to talk about today.

For 2015, WBW is putting attention on breastfeeding options at the workplace. No matter where a woman works, she needs support to meet her breastfeeding goals. Creating a supportive workplace atmosphere means more than words of encouragement; it’s about building the appropriate environment for the experience. It all starts with a private space with enough room to comfortably seat parents. Proper equipment should be in easy access and kept clean at all times.

Here’s our quick, easy guide to all the necessities for making breastfeeding work at work:

1. A hospital-grade breast pump designed for multiple users
2. Access to wipes for cleaning pump
3. Refrigerator for storing breastmilk
4. Locked door and/or sign that allows others to know that a mother is pumping breastmilk
5. Table for laptop and easy access to electrical outlets
6. Comfortable seating
7. A sink or access to sink for cleaning pump parts

A Room of Their Own
