This week, we’re partnering with Beaducation to show you how DIY can make a sweet statement piece like this as easy as 1-2-3. We’re so inspired that we’re offering one lucky winner their own Beaducation stamping starter kit, which includes everything you’ll need for the directions below. Beaducation offers 69 letter and number sets and 300 design stamps to get you started (including over 100 original, exclusive fonts and designs), so you can put your own spin on the names, dates and sayings that mean the most to you. Trust us: Making one for yourself (you have to practice, right?) or a great go-to gift is so easy, you’ll find it hard to stop. Here’s all it takes:

DIY Hand Stamped Necklace

Materials

  • flat metal for stamping
  • letter and number stamp set
  • hammer
  • steel bench block
  • masking tape
  • hole punch pliers
  • ball chain
  • small jump ring

Instructions

1. Prep your work area. Use masking tape to secure metal to bench block. The strip of tape will also act as a guide when you stamp, so visualize where you want your letters to be when you place the tape.

2. Stamp your design. In order to make sure that your word is centered, it helps to start with the middle letter and work your way outward. (For “HAZEL” we started with “Z” and stamped the rest of the word around it.) Holding your stamp vertically with one hand, use your other hand to hammer the top of the stamp and form the impression. Practice beforehand on extra metal or a piece of cardstock to get the feel of it, as it should only take one even strike to make a clear stamp.

3. Punch a hole in your metal. Put a piece of cardstock between the metal and the top of the hole punch to prevent scratching. Add a jump ring and string your new pendant onto a ball chain.

Now you’re ready to put your stamp on style!
