Helping families get the best start for their kids is in The Honest Company’s DNA, and during the holiday season, the spirit of giving is heightened even further. For the second year in a row, The Honest Company partnered with Baby2Baby to sponsor their annual Family2Family Holiday Party and bring holiday joy to families in need.
We shopped for gifts for one hundred children and turned our headquarters into Santa’s workshop, with a wrapping party on December 4th. In addition to providing gifts, Honest donated 250 packs of wipes, 500 packs of diapers and 250 shampoos, toothpastes, healing balms, and face and body lotions for guests families to take home.
Children received their gifts and Honest products at the Family2Family Holiday Party on December 13. We were thrilled to see the joy on their faces!
As part of our holiday gift this year, we’re continuing our tradition of social goodness and are helping create a healthier, safer future for our children to thrive. We care passionately about children’s health – what goes on and around children, but also what goes IN children. Nutrition education and access to healthy food is critical to healthy development.
That’s why The Honest Company is investing $125,000 in FoodCorps, a nationwide team of AmeriCorps leaders, to shape healthier school food environments and give children an enduring relationship with real food to lead longer, more productive lives.
Our Safe, Kids Safe Sleep initiative continued into November with a visit to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. In partnership with the Safe Kids Coalition, Baby2Baby and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Jessica and close to 100 Honest team members educated at-risk families about safe sleep practices and presented each family with Honest essentials and cribs from our Buy One, Give One initiative.
As one of the top five corporate fundraising teams from the Nautica Malibu Triathlon, the Honest team had the opportunity to learn about the pediatric cancer research our contributions are helping to support. We had the privilege of distributing 300 bags of Honest essentials to in-patient children and their families. With each bag and conversation, we witnessed the true power and courage of the human spirit and witnessed what it really means to be a hero.
When it comes to making the world a safer, healthier (and happier) place for the men in our lives, Honest employees are passionate. Did you know that men are 24% less likely to have visited a doctor in the past year, they’re also less likely to address the most serious physical and mental health issues facing men, including prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental illness? With such startling a reality, Honest employees rallied together to raise over $50,000 for the Movember Foundation—we believe that together, we can raise awareness and inspire real change.
Honest partnered with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, and Safe Kids Coalition to educate at-risk families about safe sleep practices. Honest team members in Texas and California lead informational classes, and each family was presented with a crib, mattress and diaper bag filled with essentials products.
Swim, bike, run? The Honest team did it all when they took the Malibu Triathlon by storm, raising over $78,000 for cancer research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. In our first year, Honest raised more than any other corporate team competing for their first time. We certainly enjoy a little friendly competition, and love raising money to support great causes, so you can bet that we are already strategizing for next year.
Honest co-founders Jessica Alba, Christopher Gavigan, Brian Lee, and Sean Kane celebrated the opening of The Honest Company Ultra Clean Room at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
This state-of-the-art facility will measure the impact of chemicals in the environment on children’s health and will reduce the turnaround time for test results from 18 months to less than two weeks.
Honest is proud to support the work of Mount Sinai and join them in their commitment to giving children (and future parents) the chance to achieve their fullest mental, emotional and physical potential.
From July 7-11th, 2014, the Honest team brought out our crafting skills to make “turtle pillows” for children with life-threatening illnesses attending The Painted Turtle Summer Camp.
The Painted Turtle provides a traditional summer camp experience for sick children from across the United States. This camp experience is completely free of charge and provides these children with a sense of fun, community, and outdoor adventure. Many of these children are away from their family & home for the first time so these turtle pillows are given to them upon their arrival at camp to serve as a source of comfort during their time away.
In celebration of the first day of summer, the Honest team grabbed our buckets and gloves to join a community beach clean-up with Heal the Bay. We combed Will Rogers State Beach for pieces of plastic, styrofoam, cigarette butts, and every other piece of trash polluting the beach. By the end of the event, our team managed to collect over 6 pounds of trash (which is significant considering most pieces of trash are smaller than a quarter in size!)
Heal the Bay is a nonprofit organization working to make Southern California coastal waters and watersheds safe, healthy, and clean. They host regular community action programs and advocacy efforts to protect the coast.
In celebration of America’s military service members and our launch of free APO/FPO/DPO shipping for those serving abroad, we joined forces with Operation Shower to throw a special nautical-themed baby shower for forty U.S. Navy families in San Diego. All serving through the USS Ronald Reagan and USS Vinson, these parents-to-be were treated to a day of fun surprises as a thank you for their dedication, support, and sacrifice.
Honest and Baby2Baby threw a special Mother’s Day baby shower for 40 pregnant moms from the Baby2Baby community. In addition to going home with a crib, diapers, shampoo, clothing, and other Honest products from their newborn baby, each mom was treated to a day of pampering. Activities included manicures with non-toxic polish, photography to document their baby bump, an Honest Life book signing with Jessica Alba, a sugar scrub-making station, and much more.
On May 9th, in honor of Mother’s Day, The Helping Hand of Los Angeles and Cedars-Sinai Hospital presented Jessica with the “Mother of the Year” Award for her work in helping children and families. She was joined on-stage to accept the award by her husband, Cash, and two daughters, Honor and Haven.
The Helping Hand of Los Angeles is a nonprofit organization working for more than 80 years to advance health research and treatment for women’s issues.
Honest employees came together to assemble 150 fresh-cut flower arrangements, 150 Honest pampering kits, and 150 hand-written cards for moms served by Baby2Baby.
All of these gifts were then delivered as a Mother’s Day surprise by the various social service agencies that Baby2Baby works with across Los Angeles. In total, 150 unsuspecting moms in Los Angeles were given a moment of delight on Mother’s Day when they went to collect the most basic of essentials for their children!
We celebrated Earth Day by showing our love for The Nature Conservancy across our Honest social channels. For every SHARE of the badge (pictured here) on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Instagram, we donated $1 to The Nature Conservancy (nature.org)!

In honor of Earth Day (April 22, 2014), the Honest Office hosted a “Teal to Green” Week to focus on sustainability and education in the workplace. We challenged each other to improve commutes to the office with carpooling, biking, and walking. We learned about proper recycling techniques and we watched a documentary on how to improve plastic pollution. We participated in a spin class with proceeds going to the nonprofit organization, Heal the Bay, working to clean our oceans. We eliminated waste by reminding people to print on both sides of paper, to use cloth towels in the restroom, and to use reusable cups and silverware. Overall, we worked to remember that every day is earth day here at Honest and each employee plays a role in making that happen.
As part of our commitment to National Volunteer Week, over 50 Honest employees joined Food Forward in the Huntington Gardens to harvest oranges for a local food receiving agency. In total, we picked over 3,200 pounds of fresh fruit to serve to Los Angeles families in need. That is the equivalent of 12,800 servings of fruit! As a volunteer--based organization, Food Forward rescues fresh local produce that would otherwise go to waste and connects this abundance with agencies across Los Angeles county.
HONESTLY SPEAKING:
“One of the best things about partnering with the Honest Company is how involved each volunteer gets in the work they do and how they support the community in so many ways.”
– Erica Gaetano, Social Enterprise & Partnerships Manager
Pajama party! On March 20, 2014 we hosted a Dream Land Play Date to serve 40 Baby2Baby families from the community. This event served as a way to distribute our recent crib and diaper donation while also bringing a fun experience to children from the community. Guests were treated to engaging activities in a dreamy setting and left with laundry-sized bags of Honest products, clothing, and books. Cribs were also sent home with the families who needed them.
In celebration of our Buy One, Give One crib promise and our One Vote = One Diaper Donated campaign with The Cribsie Awards, more than 60 members of the Honest family joined Baby2Baby to donate 200 new cribs and over 108,000 diapers to Los Angeles families in need on Sunday, March 16. And we couldn’t have done it without you! From the launch of our crib in January 2014 through today, we have promised to donate one crib to a family in need for every one crib sold on Honest.com. And this was the first delivery of cribs as part of our team fulfilling that promise. In addition, the 2014 Cribsie Awards earlier this year generated over 100,000 votes, so we were honored to make this diaper donation to Baby2Baby.
TechJam LA is an annual basketball tournament for technology companies in the Greater Los Angeles area. It is organized by a group of tech professionals for tech professionals who share our same philosophies of work and play. Go Team Honest!

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we aimed to create ways for each employee to show their love and gratitude throughout the month of February. We hosted a blood drive with CHLA, brought in Be the Match! for a bone marrow registry drive, and sent care kits to deployed troops with Operation Gratitude. Employees put together a variety of Honest products and included uplifting letters to members of our military.
HONESTLY SPEAKING:
“Our goal at Be The Match® Registry is to educate diverse communities about the need for marrow donors. Corporate partners, like The Honest Company, are an essential partner in our mission to save lives; providing us access to new donors and contributing funds to support our work. We thank The Honest Company for hosting a donor drive at your headquarters, and we especially thank the 22 Honest Co. employees who stepped up to join the registry. Those 22 new potential donors are giving hope to thousands of patients around the world in need of a bone marrow transplant.”
– Sharlene Risdon-Jackson, Development Specialist, Be The Match®
The launch of our Honest crib means the launch of our new Buy One Give One campaign. For every crib purchased in 2014 (and while supplies last!), a crib will be donated to a family in need.
Honest joins the Cribsie Awards (again!) to donate one diaper for every vote cast. In total, over 108,000 individual diapers were donated to Baby2Baby as part of this campaign!
For every purchase, a donation is made to families in need.
In 2013, we fulfilled this promise by donating 112,623 units of Honest product, 554 employee volunteer hours, and helping to plant 65,000 trees across the United States.
