Whether we’re packing bags at Honest HQ or leaving the office to volunteer, we’re fortunate to work with Baby2Baby throughout the year to further our mission and empower our community. This December we celebrated the season of giving by participating in Baby2Baby’s Family2Family program, where they provide toys, clothes, hygiene items and more to hundreds of underserved families during the holidays. Our Honest family brought in over 140 gifts, each wrapped at our office and distributed at Baby2Baby’s annual Holiday Celebration to the kids they serve. This fall, Honest employees took an afternoon off to give back with City Year, a nonprofit organization providing mentorship, behavioral support and educational resources in an effort to increase graduation rates for at-risk children. Together as one Honest team, we volunteered at a nearby elementary school in Los Angeles. In an effort to help improve their learning environment, we put our new cleaning products to the test in the parent’s center, built six outdoor benches, painted 15 murals and pulled countless weeds from their garden. At the end of the day, we saw what just a few hours could do to positively impact our local community. Check out more photos here: Honest Purpose: Day of Service 2017
This year our team included 10 new triathletes, who fundraised throughout the summer to support cancer research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Before the race, employees took a tour of CHLA and their Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disease to see the patients, research, and incredible work our team is supporting. Thanks to our friends, families and coworkers, we raised over $14,000 as a team!
Honest has advocated for ingredient transparency for over 5 years, and we are proud to have partnered with Senator Lara and the sponsors of the Cleaning Product Right To Know Act (SB 258) to help raise the standards of ingredient transparency. Ingredient labeling will become standard practice for all businesses across the cleaning industry, and you as a consumer will now have more information - right on the bottle - to make the right choice for your family. Breaking News: California Passes the Cleaning Product Right to Know Act!
With your help, Honest hit a big milestone this month! Since inception, we have donated 10 MILLION diapers to nonprofit organizations addressing diaper need in the US. We are proud to partner with nonprofit organizations including Baby2Baby and National Diaper Bank Network, who help us further our mission to empower people to live happy, healthy lives.
Ten women learning to code through St. Joseph Center’s Codetalk program stopped by for a day at Honest HQ to shadow our digital team. Codetalk is a technology bootcamp, transforming the income potential of low income and under employed women in Los Angeles. They brought their students to see a day in the life of Honest engineers and UX designers and learn about potential career paths in web technology. Afterwards, we surprised the students at St. Joseph Center with an Honest Beauty Tutorial, teaching the group how to create an Interview-Ready look and sharing tips for their job search.
Honest volunteers stopped by Garden School Foundation’s summer camp to host a craft activity, teaching campers how to reuse plastic bottles and create something with their own two hands! With empty spray bottles of Honest Multi-Surface Cleaner we created planters for succulents. We also used our Dish Soap as an ingredient in homemade paint and bubbles. Check out our blog for more activities for kids’ days off!
Women from across all departments of Honest hosted an Honest Beauty makeup tutorial for Dress for Success, whose mission is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Together we created an Interview-Ready Look and shared tips and tricks on how to apply Honest Beauty products. Each woman left with the products, tools and skills she needs to recreate the look at home!
This year for Earth Day, our team joined Community Healing Gardens and enjoyed a day outside helping maintain a 1-acre garden at Edward Markham Middle School. Community Healing Gardens creates urban sustainable gardens in Los Angeles, growing food for communities who need it the most; and their 1-acre garden at Edward Markham Middle School will serve as an educational garden for the students. It needed a little love this month, so we took our team out to the garden to plant, weed, and dig trenches! The hard work paid off when we saw what a difference a few hours could make.
An organization close to our hearts, Baby2Baby provides families in need with the basic necessities that every child deserves. One of the ways they do this is by providing Baby Bundles to families leaving the NICCU at CHLA, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. To help with this transition from the hospital, we packed diapers, personal care products, bottles, blankets and more in laundry bags, which will be distributed by Baby2Baby and their partners. We also stopped by Baby2Baby’s warehouse this month, where our Product and Finance teams helped sort a range of donated items for additional programs Baby2Baby supports.
In March we hosted a packing party to support St. Joseph Center at Honest HQ! Through a variety of meaningful programs and services they provide, St. Joseph Center is working to help homeless families and individuals move from the streets into permanent housing. To welcome them home to a new start, Honest employees boxed essential personal care and cleaning products that families will receive when they move in.
To celebrate the season of giving, Honest hosted a food drive with St. Joseph Center, our nonprofit partner who, among many other services, provides Thanksgiving baskets to low-income and homeless families and individuals in Los Angeles. We collected over 200 most-needed items to help bring a happy, healthy holiday season to those they serve. After Thanksgiving, we spent Giving Tuesday with Baby2Baby packing gift bags of Honest essentials for underserved families in Los Angeles and kicking off adopt-a-child for the holidays!
Our first large-scale donation of 2017 — over 44,000 Honest products — went to the National Diaper Bank Network, an organization with nonprofit members in 46 states that provides essentials to underserved families. The Texas Diaper Bank took creative initiative to make the donation impactful for the upcoming stormy season and hosted a volunteer day to create Honest Disaster Relief Kits, which will be stored as a cautionary measure for their local communities.
Every once in awhile, we all need to step away from our desks and get a breath of fresh air. And that’s exactly what our Sales team and the Garden School Foundation did this month at a local elementary school. We took some time away from Honest HQ to give back, and spent a Thursday morning cleaning up the community garden and teaching kids about the importance of growing healthy food. We even learned a little ourselves, too!
1 vote = 1 diaper was our motto when we sponsored the Cribsie Awards this year. For each vote parents cast for their favorite baby products, Honest committed to donating 1 diaper for a donation of up to 100,000 diapers. When it was all said and done, we decided to share a little more love and nearly tripled our donation to Baby2Baby. The result: over 250,000 diapers donated that Baby2Baby will then provide to families in need across the US.
To kick off 2017, we joined the Wayfarer Foundation for their third annual Carnival of Love — a celebration of acceptance, compassion and fun in downtown Los Angeles for the homeless individuals on Skid Row. The day included haircuts, health services, food, face painting and more. Honest provided 12,000 travel size personal care and hygiene products to assist, and volunteers guided guests through the services offered. It was an unforgettable day spent sharing inspiring messages of love.
