Getting the Nutrients Babies Need
We are what we eat, every cell in our body is comprised of the nutrients absorbed from our food. For babies growing at a rapid rate, healthy nutritious food couldn't be more vital and the reason I chose Avocado as Bash's first food!
Avocado Baby Food
Avocado is a superfood for babies because it contains the enzyme lipase which helps break down the fruit making it an easy first food for baby to digest. Technically a fruit, this first food is loaded with vitamins K, E, C and folate along with brain healthy antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin that are great for all the major leaps happening around 4-6 months. The monounsaturated fat, oleic acid, present in avocados is heart healthy and anti-inflammatory.
How to Make Your Own Baby Food
Since the flavor of avocados can vary greatly, I suggest mashing it with a little breast milk or formula to thin and sweeten. As your baby grows, get creative by mixing it with a little coconut yogurt to add probiotic bacteria, lemon to increase vitamin C or bone broth to add gut healthy protein like arginine, glycine, glutamine and proline.
The Recipe
Stage 1:
1 avocado
1 ounce of breast milk or formula
Stage 2:
1 avocado
2 tbsp coconut yogurt
1 avocado
squeeze of lemon
1 avocado
1 ounce of chicken bone broth
Mash to your desired thickness.
