There’s no better back-to-basics playtime activity than play dough. The simple staple can provide hours of squishy fun for little fingers! Today’s DIY puts a seasonal spin on the classic, just in time for Thanksgiving vacation.

Seasoned with cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice, this play dough smells like the real deal. It only takes a couple of minutes to whip up a quick batch and — with holiday baking in session — you may already have everything you need right in your kitchen. Just round up the kiddos and get to cookin' (kind of).

 PUMPKIN PIE PLAY DOUGH

Materials

1 cup flour

2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup water

2 teaspoons cream of tartar

⅓ cup salt

1 tablespoon vegetable oil or coconut oil

Natural food coloring (orange or mix red + yellow)

Instructions

1. In a medium saucepan, mix all ingredients (except for food coloring). Stir over medium heat to combine.

2. Add food coloring once dough begins to thicken. If you don't have natural dye on deck, you can also make you own food or juice based dyes.

3. Continue to stir dough until it takes on a thick, smooth texture.

4. Remove dough from heat and allow to cool on non-stick surface.

5. Get your play dough on! The kids will have tons of fun using festive cookie cutters to “bake” alongside Mom.

6. Store play dough in an air tight container. It will last up to several months.
