While heart shaped candies may have prematurely hit the grocery stores months ago, Valentine’s Day is finally (almost) here! The holiday is already notorious for sweet treats of every variety, so when we were brainstorming our Valentine’s Day DIYs this year we tried to think outside of the box.
These DIY conversation heart magnets are a fun play on the classic candy, and are a cinch to make! Use them to get festive around the home this February, or wrap them up as a charming gift for loved ones.
Dough Ingredients
1 cup flour
½ cup salt
½ cup cold water
Materials
Mixing bowl
Spoon
Cookie cutters
Baking sheet
Parchment paper
Stamps
Magnets
Hot glue gun
Fine tipped pen
Instructions
1. Add all 3 ingredients to a medium sized mixing bowl. Use a spoon to mix, then knead dough until thoroughly combined. Your dough is ready when it is soft and even in texture — make sure to get all the lumps out!
2. Flour your surface then use a rolling pin to roll out your dough until it is about ⅛ of an inch thick throughout.
3. Cut away! Use cookie cutter to cut out desired shapes. We happened to have some heart shaped cookie cutters, but you can fashion a “cookie cutter” out of anything. Honest tip: the cap of non-stick cooking spray makes a perfect circle!
4. Use alphabet stamps to stamp words into each piece. Transfer cutouts to a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Bake at 200 degrees for 2 hours, or until dry and hardened.
5. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
6. Use a fine tipped felt marker to fill in your stamped shapes.
7. Carefully use a hot glue gun to attach a magnet to the back of each piece.
8. Have a happy Valentine’s day!
