Pause & Pose: Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe

Life is all about balance. Luckily, yoga poses like the Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe can help you find and improve your sense of physical, mental, and spiritual harmony. Jessica James of WeHeartYoga is here to show us how it's done.

Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose

Level 2

Benefits: Extended hand-to-big-toe pose stretches the back of your legs while building balance.

Honest Tips: It is easy to avoid the work in this pose by hyperextending in your knees and sitting in your standing hip joint. Instead extend your standing leg straight while keeping a micro bend in your knee. Lift up and out of your standing leg by descending the femur of your standing leg straight back, pressing your calf muscle forward and externally rotating your lifted leg. If flexibility is an issue bend your lifted leg, or use a strap, and focus on a straight standing leg and stacked spine. Find a focal point in front of you that's not moving and breathe!

Now go pause, pose, and find peace!
