Spring is in full bloom here at Honest and that goes for our Social Goodness efforts, too! We reached a major milestone this month: Completing the B Corp recertfication process — and adding an extra 16 points to our score for a grand total of 107. We were initially accredited in 2012 and are so proud to have made the grade once again!
For those that are unfamiliar, B Corporations are a powerful community of over 1,000 corporations, pieced together from 38 countries, all working towards one unifying goal of using business as a force for good. Other notable companies we share this certification with include Patagonia, Warby Parker, and Dogeared. B Corporations are assessed and scored for their treatment of their employees, community, and the environment.
Since we already believe in putting our people first, taking care of our employees was an easy benchmark to meet. Recently, we revamped our employee donation match program to encourage even more philanthropic activity. Any time an employee makes an approved monetary donation to a non-profit organization, Honest will match up to $1,200 per calendar year. We’ve also launched a program called “Dollars for Doers” which donation matches for an employee’s time spent volunteering outside of company sponsored events. To applaud and celebrate our employees for their positive impact, we’ve decided to chose one random employee per month to participate in our “Champion for Healthy Families” program. Each month’s winner will be spotlighted for their stellar work and will get choose their favorite non-profit to receive a donation from Honest. We love seeing our employees get involved in the community and think these new initiatives are an awesome way to show our support and catalyze the movement we wish to create.
We also believe in having fun while working hard, so we were pumped to have not one, but two teams of Honest employees participate in the 3rd annual TechJam charity basketball tournament. The tournament rallies teams from technology companies all over Los Angeles to play ball and give back, with all proceeds benefitting the Special Olympics of Southern California. Our very own Derrick Dinglasan championed this idea two years ago, and it has become a most beloved Honest tradition. In true Honest fashion, we came out once again in full force, won the fundraising competition, and even hosted a choreographed halftime show to keep the momentum alive. We can’t wait to bring it again next year!
2015 is already flying by — be sure to stay tuned for your next Social Goodness update!
